George Henry was baptised at Saint George Hanover Square, Middlesex, England on 31 Oct 1830 the son of John and Rosanna Eldridge of Farm Mews and John is shown as a baker. The baptism record shows George Henry as being born in 1829. George Henry married Margaret McMillan on 15 Aug 1856 at Newtown Geelong Victoria. He was recorded as a cooper, aged 26, born in London the son of John Eldridge, a baker and his marriage registration shows mother not known. Margaret was shown as age 22, born Edinburgh, the daughter of Daniel McMillan a builder and Charlotte Brown. Their five known children had their births registered at Geelong. George died suddenly on 11 Jan 1910 at his residence at 7 Clarke Street, Newtown. His death notice shows he was in his 77th year and was a colonist of 65 years. Margaret died on 15 Apt 1912, aged 78 at the residence of her son-in-law Mr Henry Jones of 8 McNicol Place Geelong West. They were both buried in the Eastern Cemetery.
Caroline Eldridge was baptised at Saint George Hanover Square, Middlesex on 10 Mar 1834 the daughter of John and Susanna Rosanna Eldridge of Farm Street and John is shown as a labourer. The baptism record shows Caroline was born in 1827. Caroline married George Gowty in 1845 at Geelong and they have eleven children. The death registration for Caroline Gowty shows her parents as John Eldridge and Rosanna.
The parents of George and Caroline, together with a sister Harriet, are believed to be the family who migrated from England to Tasmania, Australia on the ship Sarah arriving Hobart 14 Feb 1835 as bounty immigrants. A Mrs Eldridge and three children travelled on the schooner Adelaide from Hobart to Melbourne arriving 12 Apr 1839 and mail to a John Eldridge is reported as being held at the Geelong Post Office in 1842 and 1843. John is probably the John who died in Hotham, Melbourne in 1877 shown age 78 and married with three children.
