The 1878 birth of George Ernest at West Ham, Essex shows his parents as John Frederick Eldridge, a baker and Sarah Eldridge formerly Smeed.

On the 1881 census at St Marylebone, London, John Eldridge is shown as a biscuit maker born in Bristol, Devonshire, England whilst his wife Sarah is shown as born Lambeth, Surrey, as she was in 1871.

A grandson, Eric William Eldridge, was awarded a C.B. (Order of the Bath) and O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire).
